Yes, it’s difficult to walk the line between punchy and detailed. Particularly when it’s intended for a non-technical audience.
I’m comparing App Engine to Heroku, Elastic Beanstalk and Lambda mainly, but implicitly against EC2 and its ecosystem of RDS, SQS, SNS etc.
The reality is that there is no direct comparison, that is the essence of the disparity. Only Google has taken such a wholistic view, I suspect because they had to solve the problem internally.
All I need on GGC is App Engine. On all the others I need to find, evaluate, design and assemble the various services into something useful. Once you’ve done it 10 times it’s easy, but that’s my point.
By way of credibility all I can do in an article is refer to our experience across 185 projects mainly on Google/Amazon and point to some examples, as I have done.
