DIY Self-Improvement
We are always at a precipice. One move away from greatness, obliteration, or stagnation.
We search for answers and we seek and seek but few ever seem to find.
The problem with seeking, most of the time, is that we want to be given the answer.
But the answer is different for each person, even if just slightly. The path will meander in slightly different directions.
Nature leads by example in this. Nature creates such a diversity as to prevent us from truly predicting anything.
Researchers have proven the unpredictability of nature. There are laws yes, but to say with 100% certainly that one thing is going to happen in an exact, certain way is impossible. The infinite possibilities prevent us from knowing for sure that something is going to happen.
So, this brings me to the point of this post. Everyone is different. We all vary, even if just slightly, in our reactions, responses and how we move on from tragedy or achieve our dreams.
The endless amounts of advice and methods for self-help or self-improvment is overwhelming these days. Every other article on Medium or Quora seems to offer different strategies and advice.
After reading these articles for years, I’ve realized that, at best, they point you in a direction. Hopefully towards betterment.
No one can heal you, no one but YOU can open your eyes to your reality and truth.
Begging-bowl in hand, we flit from one guru, book, conference, blog to the next and we become further entrenched in our disappointment in ourselves for not having “fixed” our problems or “achieved” our goals. But that’s because, on the whole, you aren’t listening to yourself. You are listening to someone tell you what you should be doing.
Self-Improvement is not a one-size-fits-all scenario.
Only you know what is going to work for you.
This is not to say certain strategies and practices won’t work, or to say that you shouldn’t try various ways of self-improvement. But when you get the end of the “12-week everything-is-going-be-amazing-after-you’ve-done-all-of-this program” and you realize that everything that was promised didn’t happen, take the things that did work, and use those. And use the other things from other programs and conferences that worked and piece together your own slice of self-improvment.
That will work. Because you sorted through the chaff and made your own path to your goal.
This is the only way you can do it. Life coaches, books and healers can only take you part way or point you in a general direction. Dependence on these things only works to improve them, not you, not fully you. Forge your own way because only you know what is best for you.
And then share it with others. Tell everyone how you did it. Because your path and your way is important for other people to hear about. They will see your incredible transformation and brilliance and find the confidence in themselves to do the thing(s) they’ve always wanted to do.
Let the DIY self-improving begin! Off to your stations!
