Hello World.

This is my first ever post on Medium. I’ve been skeptical of this platform because I think publishing content should be done on a long-term scale — across your entire career — which certainly means that you want your content to outlast the platforms upon where it’s published. Medium is a startup, and as startups exist on sub-decade lifetimes typically, is an especially unsafe place to publish your work.

Over the years, I’ve preferred to host my writing on Wordpress, because it’s open source, and WPEngine, because it’s easy to migrate off. I’ve focused on building an audience that’s mostly email addresses, because email will outlast Twitter/Quora/Medium/whatever. I’ve learned this the hard way, as in my last decade of writing, I’ve had to think about migrating from Blogger to Typepad to Wordpress. From RSS to followers to email.

However, as much as I’m skeptical, I’m also experimental. So here’s my first essay on here!

Perhaps I will experiment more.

Hope y’all are having a nice Saturday.
