Today, I am moving on from Head of Design at Uber. I leave an amazing team who works to create great experiences, shaping the way people and things move through the world.

When I joined Uber in 2014, I was excited about the challenge — build an amazing design team that would impact the world in a positive way. As a team, we would find great talent, push for the best quality design, and create a culture of inspiration, exploration, and togetherness.

We were a small team of 30 then, moving quickly without much structure. It was important for us to quickly mature and create an environment where great design powered the company.

We brought on new people that inspired us as much as our own talent excited them. We created a public face to Uber Design and invited hundreds of people into our house building great community. We created a beautiful new brand for the company that will lead us forward for years to come. And, most importantly, we shipped amazing products — products that delighted our customers and moved the world to a new place.

Now, at nearly 200 people globally, the design team spans product, brand and marketing, content strategy, copywriting, prototyping, research, and more. This team is one of the best I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. They’ve inspired me, pushed me, and I’m better for having known them. They will continue to do great things. And, they have my faith and my love.

For me, I’m using our recent successes as a chance to take time off to rest, reflect, and recharge. I miss being there for my kids and I’m making a decision that enables that. Soon, I’ll be ready to take up the next challenge and it’s going to be great.

Follow me on Twitter at @andrewcrow and let’s chat about design over a beer or coffee one day.

VP of Design at Tonal. I’ve designed things you probably use every day — Uber, Medium, Strava. I like to poke things with sticks. #resist
