I think the most obvious real world parallel for the Westworld park is video games.
I imagine that to the society in Westworld that raping and murdering robots in a theme park is no more controversial than someone doing the same in a video game is to us. Sure there is probably a vocal minority who object to it (like they object to video games today) but most people probably don’t see it as anything other than a form of entertainment and dont take it seriously. There is no real social stigma that the article talks about. No more so than video games have today. That is why rich and powerful people can go there without fear of blackmail, being embarrassed etc etc. There is nothing to be blackmailed or embarrassed about.
To the people who live in the time of Westworld seeing a video of Mark Zuckerberg dragging an android off by the hair probably would be no more shocking than us seeing a video of Mark Zuckerberg running people over with a car in Grand Theft Auto.
