Hmmm?! For a year or so i collaborated on a small start up with Mustafa Suleyman, who two years later started up DeepMind with two friends. I have followed DeepMind for a while now, because of that link and a general interest in ‘learning’. So, i was intrigued that one reason Mustafa left the world of social change (in any form) was because what the human agents were hired to do, undertook to do, formally or tacitly, soon was lost in a miasma ‘called’ — . Personally, without expertise this frame reminds me that at the beginning of the day :) and the end :) any AI or computer tech at base is working on strings of 0 & 1 -digital- binary- that with ‘information’ tends to mean high levels of quality result. Add another ‘ball’ to play with and we have something like the three ball problem of complexity (?) three agents beyond abios as actors leads to chaos pretty soon without constantly corrective actions (?) like the fitness of a tennis play — So, what i ‘heard’ Mustafa say as a reason for his move from the lumpylands of analog to the flatlands of digital was — digital ‘from end to end it doesn’t make mistakes.’ but reflected in the moment six years later that maybe they had inadvertently ‘programmed’ this very ‘mistakeness’ into the heart of DeepMind!!! Personally, i think that is a mistake. I think…time for a nap!
