I’m not sure you’ve sufficiently answered the “If not China, then who?” problem. If TI results are Valve’s main metric for allocating these extra slots, then China certainly had a better showing than CIS, let alone SEA or SA, having their top 3 performers in 2nd and 2x 9/12th, compared to CIS’s 5/6th, 9/12th, and N/A. We can talk all day about how Espada might have made a miracle run at TI, but then we could have a similar discussion about LFY — who‘s to say they wouldn’t do better than IG or Serenity?

The only justifiable option besides +1 to China would seem to be +2 to either NA or EU, which you don’t bring up here. It’s fine to think China’s getting more than they deserve, but that last slot needs to go to somebody, and none of the other regions feel like better alternatives.
