Like Matt Styles, I disagree with this stance. Interestingly, this is the second time in 2 weeks I have heard someone say dressing well as a developer will hurt your job prospects. As someone who enjoys and is comfortable dressing well for work, I am of the opinion that if the hiring manager is one to think less of you for being well dressed, you probably don’t want to work there in the first place. You are better off without this kind of superficial judgement in the workplace environment, especially from someone in charge.
