I’m not going to explain Solnit’s queries because I’m not a perpetrator of violence, & so have little insight into the problem.

Demanding that “moderate” men rein in potentially violent men reminds me of how the far right responds to the proposition: how do you suppose you’d feel if you, as a Black or Latino person, were stopped & frisked by the police on a regular basis when their only PC is your skin color?

Their answer, inevitably: I’d tell my peers to stop breaking the law so much & become productive citizens. & then the police would leave me alone. How long must one ponder that reply before realizing how utterly absurd it is?

Violence is a male problem? Yes. Exclusively? No. Unless, of course, one regards infanticide as essentially non-violent.
