A great piece of software…
I’m a constant explorer of new software. I build software, so I suppose some of it is professional curiosity — and some of the curiosity comes from a desire to understand how others are approaching problems.
The cloud is ubiquitous to modern developers, and thus the need for really great remoting tools to access all the servers (and services) that make day to day software possible.
SSH clients live at the core of that experience, and while there may be the simplicity of xterm on Mac, or Putty on Windows, I increasingly found myself resorting to Cygwin when needing to quickly access a SSH host.
But as someone who spends life across a variety of cloud providers, and OSes: Unix, Windows, Mac — I wanted to find something that could truly provide a swiss army knife for my remoting needs.
Every since I compiled my first Linux back in 1997, I’ve been so curious as to why X11 is not used as designed — why can’t I host my X11 application on my client desktop — yes, I may have learnt that there are a myriad of reasons why that is easier said than done, but finally now I can in fact use X11 apps, RDP, VNC and SSH all from a single interface; and I’m yet to shell out for the professional version which is a no-brainer to be honest: MobaXterm.
Developed in France, this is truly one of the best pieces of software I’ve encountered in a long time. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a truly great and simple application.
