Project 3 Process Documentation
For this project, I researched the font Baskerville and created a poster showing its typographic features and some background information.
The font was created to be used in high quality prints such as in books and newspapers. Because of this, I arrived at my original design which kind of looks like a newspaper.

After getting some comments, I realized this design was not very good when viewed from afar. The tight block of text on the left looked like a foreign black rectangle from a distance of around 20 feet away, and was distracting for the design. Also, the X seemed a bit out of place with no explanation for why it was in the poster. For the second iteration, I wrote out out a short writeup on the history of the font and also spaced out the lines a bit more.

Still, the design was not pleasing because of the odd white space on the upper right. Also, the alignment of the character set and the shape of the X did not work together. I decided to flip the two elements to get the heavier-weighted X on the right hand side which helped, but the alignment of the character set and the paragraph above proved to look weird. For my final iteration, I tried to change the alignment and the shape of the character set to complement the shape of the X since it is more triangular than rectangular in shape.

For the final iteration, the character set was adjusted to complement the shape of the X but also aligned left to match with the paragraph above. Also, the width of the paragraph was extended to the right to align with the centerline of the X. To make the block of text less dense, I removed the last descriptive line of the X and placed it above the X in a smaller font as a caption. The intent was to make the reader come closer to see the caption and then observe the asymmetry of the X. Also, it was meant to help fill in the white space to the right of the paragraph above. Next, the line under the font title was removed since it was unnecessary, and the text with the creator and the creation date was italicized and enlarged in order to make the hierarchy clearer.
