Pinterest

  • Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, and discover new interests by posting (known as ‘pinning’ on Pinterest) images or videos to their own or others’ boards (i.e. a collection of ‘pins,’ usually with a common theme) and browsing what other users have pinned.

How it is different from other social media platforms I use and how it is unique.

  • The main social media platforms I use are twitter, instagram, facebook, and snap chat. Pinterest is a lot different than those so I thought I would check it out to see what it is all about. A big difference with it is that you aren’t there to talk to friends or post about your day, you are on there to find cool stuff like pictures, ideas, and even recipes for food. You then can make boards and pin things to different ones depending on the category. Some of my friends use this social media but I am really not interested in following them. To me this is a more personal social media, if that makes any sense.
  • Pinterest is unique and I am happy I decided to use it. This social media platform is all about you, what you love and finding new things to be interested in. It allows you to casually browse and bookmark visuals without really worrying if someone likes or comments on your posts. It’s a “quiet” network without the chatter you’ll find on other social networks like the ones I usually use. You can be you and not have to worry about what other people think.

My experience

  • All in all I had a great experience using Pinterest and exploring a new social media that I never thought I would use. I like how there is stuff for everyone on it. Categories range from anything like pets to vacations and I found a lot of stuff that interested me. I made two boards about the Red Sox and Patriots because they are my favorite sports teams. I browsed through pictures like Fenway, Tom Brady, David Ortiz and tons of other things and pinned them to my page. I also made another board about random interests such as dogs, food and different places to travel in the world. It gets really addicting and you can find yourself on for a while without even realizing it.
