Power to the Comments
Renewable energy has influenced many to pursue a lifestyle of cleaner energy, leaving oil companies in the dust. The majority of people, for the most part, have encountered the topic of renewable energy. We’ve all read the pressing articles listing actions we can take on to better our “dirty habits.” Typically, readers are more interested in the information provided by the text. Today, I’m more concerned on how the general public are responding to these ideas. Are they for, or against the Clean Energy Revolution?
Topics are only relevant if people are discussing their context. In a recent blog post, The Coming Electrification of Everything, Andrew Beebe confers the benefits of renewable energy. He declares, “At Obvious Ventures, we believe stored electricity, increasingly derived from renewable sources, will entirely replace fossil fuels as the preferred method to power everything in our lives.” After observing the comment section in Beebe’s post, we recognize most of his readers either agree with the information provided, add additional information, or ask for further elaboration.
Analyzing comments grants the publisher questions/topics to discuss in further explanation. Readers who comment usually contribute their own personal opinion. In this particular post, various commenters reply with a negative connotation towards oil companies, stating the renewable energy revolution is coming. Fossil fuels are seen as dirty, outdated means of energy. Beebe is quick to provide links, in which support his ideas. He provides evidence that countries all over the world are taking steps to convert to clean energy. With the link he provided, we can see that Off Grid Electric company has already raised close to $200-million in the hopes to install clean, renewable energy units in homes all over the globe at a rate of “over 10,000 new homes and businesses per month.” The comment section is a great resource to help expand ones knowledge of the topic.
