This quote from Ursula Franklin’s book, “The Real World of Technology,” captures a lot of what I see happen to folks who have every reason to expect more but have ultimately accepted that they should expect less:
“When a technology, together with the supporting infrastructures, becomes institutionalized, users often become captive supporters of both the technology and the infrastructures. (At this point, the technology itself may stagnate, improvements may become cosmetic or marginal, and competition becomes ritualized.)”
