As a I child my mother told me that sitcoms were shows about people lying to each other. That stuck with me, and I’ve tried to avoid canned laughter over the years.

I never Friends all that amusing, although it wasn’t always awful. For the few years when I did watch I think I found Phoebe was probably the best character. She was the unrepentant oddball who seemed immune to their barbs.

She clearly shouldn’t have been hanging out with the rest of them.
