Lindy effect vs. confirmation bias?

Applying Lindy effect to empirically test the veracity of social science and psychology concepts by looking to the ancients is definitely intriguing. However, would not such a technique be heavily affected by the confirmation bias of the person applying it? I.e., surely on many topics very contradictory ideas have been expressed by ancients with both contradictory ideas still surviving. E.g., contradictory “eye for an eye” and “turn the other cheek” heuristics have both survived for thousands of years.
