A Boy and His Lily

A Poem about a different kind of love.

When rose the sun, to shine light upon the dew tipped grass,

A young boy went out to play

Running through the fields with stalks shoulder high

He came upon a field of flowers

So sweet were the smell of sundry roses

And daffodils, tulips and the like

Content was he to linger here for hours

Taking in their sweet perfume

T’was sudden when it caught his gaze

A single Lily white

He knew not why it caught his eye

To see her planted in the earth

Limbs outstretched to hug the sun

And fill her body with its warmth

Softly she sang with a voice

That calmed his troubled heart

And she became his favorite flower

Out of hundreds in the soil

So he lifted his head to praise

The heavens for so great a thing

Beautiful, radiant, and pure

Reflection of love divine

For God so loved a boy that He

Would grant him such a pleasure

As to listen to the Lily sing

And never pluck her from the ground.
