Great piece Umair, thank you for sharing.
There are many people in the USA that are on the Fascism train and don’t even know it. Thankfully, we have a constitution and are built on a system of laws. We have the privilege of voting every 4 to 6 years (minus the Supreme Court selections) for our president and officials. Either way, things will pan out the way intended, that’s typically how a democracy works.
With that said, I am saddened that our Republic is in the state it’s in currently. Both the left and right leaning party’s are so angry. We can’t even have a frig-in debate on our philosophical and political differences anymore. Steve Banon’s politics are not my cup of tea, but I think it was a disservice in not having him front and center for a intellectual debate. I have a lot of respect for the New Yorker and trusted they had things under control. Hell, we and he might have even learned something. To be honest, the dems started it this time in reference to the New Yorker debacle. Boo hooing the New Yorker line up, acting like children (if he’s going, I won’t be your friend). I get it, your doing what you think is right by protesting and despising a so called white nationalist fascist. But, don’t you think getting this person you despise, in a open forum, just might help with getting to the truth? I mean, isn’t all about getting to the truth and having people debate on why I think I’m right and why you think your right? Isn’t the ultimate goal coming to some epiphany where we both might be able to come to an understanding? We will never get to that place acting the way most of us are acting these days. If so, its just going to be more of the same. BTW, I’m a registered independent and believe in picking the lesser of 2 evils, voting for person, not party.
I hope as a country we wont let the disagreements we have fester to the point of no return. Things can get way worse, just open up a history book. Are we adults here, or are we as Steve Bannon might say “snow flakes”? Where are we as a country when we wont debate our ideas and differences in a stable open forum?
Unfortunately, instead of thinking, debating and trying to understand each other, we just react to the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe we deserve what we get and the saying “You reap what you sow stands true”. Maybe?
