I Left The “Grand Old Party” Today

Thanks for an excellent article, Luis. Your anguish is palpable. You’re not alone, nor is this a theme unique to the US. I’m a Brit long time resident in the US. My heart is left-leaning, but I cannot in good conscience vote for Hillary, who stands for everything I resent about politics and wealth. I further resent the implication that I should ‘hold my nose and vote for Hillary’ to keep Trump out of office. This is the world’s greatest democracy, is this the best we can come up with? Of all the talented men and women this great country produces, can we not organize ourselves to come up with viable candidates who will do what’s right rather?
In the UK, a similar race to the bottom exists between Cameron and Corbyn, Conservative and Labour. Advanced Western democracies must be entering a new phase in their relationships with, and attitudes towards, their governments and elected officials.

I will abstain in November, volunteering to become disenfranchised, because none of these parties represent what I believe in.
