But if they are broken?

A few points, Matthew:

  1. The furniture in the article isn’t “mid-century Danish”, the nest of tables is French (Ercol), and the designs have been around since the 1960s — but are still made today. The sideboard is “bog standard” 1930s British mass-produced.
  2. You don’t highlight the cause of much of the dilapidation on Central Hill and many other Lambeth estates, which is the appalling standard of maintenance and repair over the last 10–15 years — please don’t blame the Tories and/or the Lib-Dems, because your party held power most of the time. As for the asbestos issue, it’s interesting that you haven’t mentioned the level of risk from this material — low according to your own surveys.
  3. 21,000 are on the waiting list — a figure you trumpet often to support your regeneration agenda — and yet your regeneration agenda will remove (according to GLA figures) 420 homes from Lambeth’s social housing stock. That’s a figure that puts your “thousand new social rent homes” pledge in perspective.
  4. You’re being disingenuous when you say “no decision” has been made regarding Central Hill’s future. Your spending of EXTRA council funds above and beyond the original budget — £432,000 beyond, or thereabouts — on “consultation” show that YOU have already formulated a plan, and now need to manipulate opinion behind that plan.
