In my view, Iraq would have been better off if we had been allowed to continue the FID/COIN mission. But I think, to an extent the advise/assist military mission was a band-aid on a sucking chest wound. Without a stable, legitimate government, we were just preventing the inevitable implosion. Department of State dropped that ball.
