How to make labels doing more work for you

Definition of Label:Pictorial, descriptive, or informative matter (such as a brand, mark, or tag), attached, attached to an object and giving information about it

I like labels (or tags), they are a perfect tool. Unfortunately, they also require a lot of manual work. Way too much. So, we have much less value from them, then we could.

My solution? A semi-automatic mode.

Labels are often used to specify an activity or a job to be done (design, development, marketing etc.). But the job itself is done by real people, who have the necessary skills. Hence, a label, de facto is a name of a skill of a person.

Now, imagine, we can associate a person (or an object) with a set of his labels-skills, like architecture, marketing, presale, etc.

When we connect a task to a person that task automatically gets all the labels the person has. Of course, the list of labels is editable. And when a person is disconnected from a task, all his labels are automatically deleted from that task too. No more manual operations:)

Labels may have different levels of importance. For example, for a task — a “main label” is a label of a person responsible for the result.

Now, object’s classification needs less time and manual efforts. And, because there are always more tasks than people, attaching labels to people would require fewer efforts.

Progress and state for projects and activities become much visible and transparent. More data allows identifying new trends. And this approach is not limited only to tasks or projects.
