Week 10: Different Understandings

This week began with a reading by Wiggins, in which he outlines that in order to fully understand something, one must be able to 1. explain it, 2. interpret it, 3. apply the knowledge, 4. have perspective on it, 5. can empathize, and 6. can have self knowledge. The reading itself is very straight forward, and offered me a good lens through which I can begin designing my learning experience more specifically through the outlined learning cycle phases.

First quadrant (why?)
Second quadrant (what?)

This is a poster I’ve been iterating on for over a week at this point. It offers the sequence of different activities within my learner experience, and has served to structure it in a way that touches each of the 6 facets Wiggins describes.

Third quadrant (how does it work?)
Fourth quadrant (what if?)

I’ve also begun developing the visual design of my learned experience. I’m drawing inspiration from different outlets that relate to hip hop culture, such as Complex Magazine, XXL Magazine, covers of rap albums from the 1990’s, graffiti culture, etc.
