“ACTIVCITY: OUR SDG VISION”

We are 5 young optimistic people, Eddy, Eleni, Amalia, Andromache and Angeliki who came across the 17 Sustainable Development goals by the United Nations during our “Social Issues and Social Innovation” lab. We formed a team and started discussing as well as doing some research on “SDG’s” in order to decide what project would inspire us the most to work on it. Our final decision as a team was to choose the Sustainable Development goal No10 “Reduced Inequalities”. We consider that in terms of our society it would be more interesting to carry out a more human centered goal. For this reason we focused on people with movement disabilities, such as wheelchair users and blind people. In Greece, this a crucial issue as we see everyday that people don’t really respect and understand the needs of this social group. Many times we have noticed that people overlook the priority seats for disabled people in public transportation or park in front of wheelchair ramps. Actions like these incommode people with movement disabilities and make them feel insecure moving in their own city. Our goal as a team is to familiarize and sensitize society towards disabled people in order for them to move equally in the city. We started with interviews of disabled people who gave us useful feedback and ideas of what we should be aware of. We are glad they shared their stories with us and mentioned the problems they come across in their everyday lives so we can be more accurate in our work. Based on the interviews, we designed a user centered website called “Activcity” which adapts our idea on the conditions of the real world. The purpose of “Activcity” is to inform about how we can facilitate the lives of people with movement disabilities and cause a real social impact on others.

P.S We are humans who love humans.
