I’m not going to dispute or challenge your story here. I’m concerned with harm reduction, not ideology. That psychiatry has helped you is wonderful news and I wish more patients had tales of success and improvement as powerful as yours.
Nowhere in my piece do I claim that psychiatry does not or cannot help patients, nor do I claim medications do not work. My focus is on over-medicalization and the problems I see with the population not being aware of the harmful side effects of prolonged consumption of some of these medicines. Everything I’ve written is therefore consistent with your story.
I would like to know more about the type of brain imaging your doctor engages in though. There have been several studies showing that brain imaging cannot differentiate between different mental disorders, so the fact that yours was able to identify undiagnosed ADHD from a brain scan is interesting and worth looking more into.
