My reading of creativity is that it is an innate property of humans. Creativity is driving adaptation that has kept humanity alive and continuing to dominate (and destroy) our environment. Creativity in and of itself isn’t of value, though. The creative impulse is linked more to the survival impulse than anything else — fatal cold leads to the creation of clothing; large, fast animals leads to the creation of atlatl/bow and arrow; hunger and population growth leads to the creation of agriculture; need for communication (which is most clearly tied to survival), expression, and meaning leads to the creation of language and art.
