Epic 70's Indie Music
Music, for those tired of the new stuff
Alright. Medium, Shalom!
Now, that my introductions are out of the way let’s start.
In a world of technology, like this one, it can be difficult to try and stay on top of all these underground singers and bands. Constantly dropping new stuff. Especially since PitchFork has been off it’s game lately. So in order to be on point with my music, I began looking for some really cool indie 20th century bands. Since they don’t come out with new shit, I look like a boss with their latest album. Aight, here are the ones worthy of my first medium post.
First off, in order to start it slow. Let you get in to the groove a bit. Why not some before it’s time protest songs. If your looking for half instrumental song, half girl screaming at you in french. Look no further then “Paix” by Catherine Ribeiro. This song will no doubt make you feel like a huge pimp. Especially since none of the “want-to-be-hipster” douches will have heard of it. This 14 minute song will, undoubtably, get your peers to think “Did I just meet the biggest playa in town?”.
Next on the agenda, Faust’s album, Faust IV. This album provides positive vibes accompanied with an extreme inner tranquility feeling. If you don’t believe me listen to Faust’s description of Jennifer in their song “Jennifer”. Please, try debunking me by finding a girl not sexually aroused by this 1973 masterpiece. This band’s use of imagery is off the chains! On addition to their perfectly painted picture of the red headed Jennifer. Listen to their beautiful description of a “Sad Skinhead”. As you listen, prepare to be transported to an art gallery. For the picture they have painted with these words, belong in the MoMa.
It isn’t a journey to positive vibes if we don’t stop at “Ho Yaldonet”. You will have to forgive me since this was released in 1967. None the less this Hebrew classic will get you on your feet in no time. The Sabras have definitely struck gold with this track. This song is without a doubt The Sabras’ magnum opus. And be honest, who doesn’t have room for a Jewish masterpiece in their playlist? Especially one that makes any listener salivate at it’s sound. These Israeli born, turned San Franciscan are sure to put a smile on your face and a jump in your step.
The next song to add to your repitoire has to be “London Calling” by the Clash.
Only fooling!
So, back to good songs from the 70's. Simon Finn. A man of pride and triumph. A man who’s heart is as beautiful as his larynx. A man doesn’t take no for an answer. This 20th century baller was a class act to say the least. The entire album “Pass the distance” is worth the add to your mp3 player. Every note from this man’s guitar is as good as the positive vibes each song gives off. This folky oeuvre d’or has a wonderful mix of acoustic guitar and beautifully bellowed accordion. His most powerful verse from the album has to come from the song “Hiawatha” when embodies his love for a mystery women with one simple line. If you listen to it, which I’m sure you will, you can hear it for yourself. I suggest you do have a listen since it is hard to embody the beauty of it through text. He so effortlessly murmures “your cold perfection, causes my erection.” This line sent shivers down my spine as I’m sure it will do to yours. This line made my heart palpitate. It took what I thought I knew about music, ripped it in two and spit on it. Sorry for personifying this one line but I believe it is so powerful, I could easily be human.
I’m afraid my conducting you on your journey to good vibes has to end here. Kind of out of the blue, and I must apologize for that. The suggestions have halted, but have no fear. With these songs your positive vibes will be radiating from you. I hope that your quest for good vibes will never end. I dream that this short post has inspired you to pursue a lifetime of positive vibes. I will be back with more epic 70's music. Maybe one day, my Medium will replace PitchFork. Come aboard the locomotive of happiness, and let’s make it happen. Keep the 70's indie music alive and don’t let the good vibes train stop.
