“To solve diversity, we must start at the source of the problem — encouraging women to pursue engineering in college!”
Sounds great! The only problem is — it does not work.
I work for one of the largest university in US. We implemented numerous programs encouraging women to pursue degree in computer science. It includes summer camps working with high school students, e-sports clubs, mentoring, women’s college education programs, etc.
Our admission department is working with the same pool numbers as your company’s HR.
It is even before the student is facing “harsh college reality environment”. And, yes, computer science classes are rigorous. For some people it might be harsh.
So, what is the solution for colleges? What should be our approach to diversity?
