Introducing Javascript
When you start the course here at Makers, you get given an overview of what each week will contain, and you are instantly shocked by the idea of week 5, in which was described “in one week we will cover javascript”.
One. Week.
I admit that when I started this course I was terrified by this prospect, as it had taken me 3 weeks of precourse to start to feel slightly comfortable with ruby, so the idea that it would take only a week to learn a whole new language caused a lot of worry.
Now I have completed the week I can let out a breath of relief. While I admit that I do not have 100% knowledge of everything I could do in the language, I understand how to structure it, how the syntax works and feel reasonably comfortable to write it (assuming I have access to the internet & a testing framework).
Talking about js testing frameworks, I am not currently a fan of Jasmine (the one that we were encouraged to learn), as after several weeks of using RSpec, it just feels lacking. If anyone has recommendations for their favourite JS test framework please give me a shout.
