Yes. And: if you’re at the table (or hope to be), I can’t recommend highly enough “Getting to Yes” by Fisher & Ury. I mention this here because the author uses the word “compromise.” Meeting someone who doesn’t understand the design “half-way” (a compromise) can break a design system completely. By negotiating around intent instead of compromising on positions (read the book), you can “give” in the way recommended here but still deliver a solution that works as intended.
