I really liked your analysis of the movie and how you compared it to the book. I agree with you when you say that instead of the quality of products improving because of the competition, the opposite is actually occurring. I think you brought up a good point in saying that what drives this type of decrease in quality is directly correlated to the fact that people are tempted by the price. We are culture that is driven by “the better deal”. We see this especially when we look at how people behave around the holidays, we strategically plan the holiday season to getting the better deal and companies respond to this. Take Black Friday, and how people react when a good deal comes their way. Companies recognize that this type of incentive is lucrative and can be monetize which is why we see so many stores that started to open during Thanksgiving day some as early as mid-afternoon and others don’t even close during that entire period.
