The habit of overthinking

I’ve certainly served my time as a serial ‘overthinker’.
If I needed to write a medium post, I would overthink.
If I needed to make a purchase, I would overthink.
If I needed to make a video, I would overthink — what will people think, what do I look like, will it be well received?
It’s a ridiculous habit and one to be nipped in the bud early.
In this fast moving digital age, people are consuming and engaging with content at a super pace so if you’re going to keep up, you’ve got to be out there.
This is something I’ve been focussing on improving in the past few months, and it’s having a profound effect on my life.
The benefit of overthinking? I certainly can’t think of any.
The benefits of just getting shit out there? Exposure, engagement, relationships and progression.
No matter what you’re putting out, don’t get caught up on it as realistically, no one cares about those finer details and you’re never going to impress everyone anyway.
Heck, you don’t need to impress everyone. There are enough people that will love you for who you are and what you do.
I’m not saying be reckless, but paralysis by analysis is real so don’t get caught up as sometimes the only way to learn is to do.
If you’re filming a video, just start filming, chop it up, put it out.
Writing a post? Just start writing, have a massive brain dump and then piece it together afterwards.
Planning a new project? Start reaching out and building relationships immediately, whether needed yet or not.
You’ll feel better for it and the results will speak a thousand words.
