I don’t think that the value exchange is quite right yet with Android Wear or Apple Watch — Apple Watch is very nicely made and can do a lot (whether that’s actually useful or desirable is a different discussion) but is irrelevant to anyone who doesn’t have an iPhone, and most Android Wear devices still feel a bit clunky or have one compromise too many (for example, the Moto 360 might have got my money if it wasn’t for the cut-off at the bottom of the screen that stops it from being properly round).
I think there’s also another competitor to consider — Pebble.
For me, Pebble seem to have hit the sweet spot of price, design, compatibility, and function — my Pebble Time Steel was decently priced, looks pretty much like a watch, works with Android and iOS, functions as a simple, minimal interface and notification surface, does exactly enough activity tracking for my needs (i.e. not that much), and only needs charging about once a week.
Saying that, I do now quite fancy a Pebble Time Round…
