The reputations of magazines and publishers is a tricky thing for sure… I think a good way to go about it is to see where poets you respect have published their poetry, or magazines that cater to your specific interests or style. And generally, a good sign of a successful publication is one that can pay their writers. I came across this resource the other day that I’m planning on using in the future:

One great thing about the internet is that you pretty much have a guaranteed audience no matter how niche you get with your work. The trick is figuring out where your audience hangs out, but fortunately, if you’re interested in a topic you should have a good general idea. As David Kadavy said, “if you make a thing, become a connoisseur of that thing.”
