A New Gospel of Philanthropy

Eradicating hunger and extreme poverty requires an approach far beyond individual philanthropy. In order to restore humanity, we must transform our collective ways of living. Greed and national self-interest must give way to a realization of interdependence. We can either continue to believe in the myth of separation so easily perpetuated by complacency and fear of “the other”, or we can rise to the occasion and demonstrate the true nature of our common heritage. The great spiritual teachings down the ages have propounded a view of interconnectedness that surpasses all cultural, geographic and ideological lines. It is now time to anchor such high ideals as brotherhood and justice onto the physical plane of everyday living.

To aid us in this monumental shift of consciousness, Maitreya — the World Teacher for the new age of Aquarius — has come to reveal a higher and more inclusive way forward. His gradual entrance into public recognition has long been in the works and documented extensively over the last few decades.* As Maitreya has already made clear in his messages, our fate hinges around our willingness to embrace the principle of sharing.

The absurd disparity in living conditions between have’s and have-not’s cannot be sustained for much longer. Economic oppression is a ticking time bomb. Likewise, the rates of consumption and pollution exhibited by the wealthiest nations of the world are unsustainable by all measures, not to mention the “emerging markets” wishing to follow our example in the near future. The New Delhi based Centre for Science and Environment once noted that if the economically poorest parts of world were to develop and consume in the same manner as the West to achieve the same living standards, we would need two additional planet Earths to produce resources and absorb wastes.

Sharing provides a viable framework towards minimizing natural resource extraction if you consider the pressure currently placed on lesser developed nations to open up their forests, land, and waterways for business. On a practical level, sharing would translate into an international agreement where nations collectively pool together their excess food and raw materials so as to redistribute them based on the needs of each nation. Blueprints for this type of implementation have been around for years. The Brandt Commission, formed in the late 1970’s, is an example of major world representatives thinking along this cooperative line of action. Imagine a very sophisticated form of barter and trade, ensuring all citizens in all nations have enough to survive by allocating goods more equitably. Hundreds of millions of men, women and children go hungry every day in a world with enough food for all. This shameful situation deeply troubles Maitreya’s heart. It is time to redeem our human race by practicing the long sought qualities of compassion and unity.

On the whole, most people are not familiar with Maitreya and his presence in the modern world. There is a network of volunteers throughout many countries who work to make known the presence of this exceptionally wise teacher of our time. Maitreya will become widely seen and heard very soon as he openly speaks on TV, inspiring humanity to work together to save those who do not have the essentials to stay alive. He will be the voice for all those who struggle to live healthy lives. He will help us to see humanity as one group, brothers and sisters all, and that as a family we should naturally share Earth’s bounty. This is what any intelligent civilization would do if they want peace.

Sharing will accomplish infinitely more than the current method of relying on donations. Donations involve money, and money is a medium that doesn’t always make it to those in need. People are dying from lack of food, shelter and basic healthcare simply due to lack of money. Sharing is the moral and logical answer. It naturally brings governments and peoples together in a spirit of goodwill. This newfound relationship will provide the needed trust and solidarity to address other crises spanning across borders like terrorism, racial tensions, immigration, and climate change. Our tenuous economic structures are merely a crisis away from major collapse. Sharing will release us from the distress of uncertainty and conflict. It will demonstrate a new level of maturity. It will lead to astonishing breakthroughs and discoveries in science, energy and healing. Given this glorious vision of our future, how could we not abandon the present mode of wasteful competition?

If you are skeptical of whether we have enough food to go around, a series of articles in the Guardian newspaper recently examined the alarming rates of discarded food and how the United States alone wastes up to half of all its produce from “farm to fork”. One third of all global produce may be lost in a similar manner. There is obvious room for improvement. Clearly sharing is the key to unlock our highest potential. As Maitreya has said:

“My task will be to show you how to live together peacefully as brothers. This is simpler than you imagine, My friends, for it requires only the acceptance of Sharing. Sharing, indeed, is divine. It underlies all progress for man. By its means, My brothers and sisters, you can come into correct relationship with God; and this, My friends, underlies your lives. When you share, you recognise God in your brother. This is a truth, simple, but until now difficult for man to grasp. The time has come to evidence this truth.”
