Phillip,

The concern I have about smaller news organizations is two-fold. First, do they have have the strong editorial oversight that I believe, perhaps foolishly, exist in the larger papers such as WSJ, NYT, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, etc. This oversight seems to provide a consistency of view and quality that enables me to understand the filter that they are applying when then interpret the information that they receive. This consistency, and proven protection of sources, also provides them access to sources that others may not have and the ability to validate the quality of their information. Does this argument hold water in your view and if so, have you seen progress in this new form of journalism. BTW, is this really new or just going back to the forms leveraged during Hamilton/Madison/Adams times?

Second, can the smaller organizations drive the sort of national consensus/ discussion that is needed to move our county through the difficult times we are having now and will have in the future as we continue to adapt to changing times? While one might not like the mess we have now, democracy is a mess, and it seems to me that we may actually be getting to the level of pain that is needed by all sides to start actually listening to each other.

What are your thoughts on this as well?

Andy
