Amazing Workplaces Are All About People.
Rethinking a Conference to make ‘Something Happen’…Again!
In 2014 I ran an event that changed my life. All About People was a two-day exploration of creating amazing workplaces. Beyond the amazing presentations, ideas and conversations that emerged over the two days, many of us who attended were left with the feeling that something happened here.
As a direct result, over the months that followed I took my life in a new direction and started The Work Project. The ensuing adventures brought me to where I am today, via many adventures in the world of work and workplace.
After the first All About People, I started to think about the next one and how to fund it. There were some interesting ideas, but I found that I just didn’t have the concept, or the personal energy to make it what it needed to be. This can’t be just another conference — there are enough of those already. All About People needs to be an alternative to traditional workplace events, an experience, a different take. It needs to give people that feeling.
As the Work Project reached the 12 month mark, I found my thoughts wandering back to All About People. Ideas started to flow around how the next one could be different, how we could encompass ideas around people, place and space in unique ways while still delivering a valuable conference experience.
All About People 2016 started to emerge and it’s taking shape.
The Basics

All About People 2016 is going to happen on June 8th-9th in Bournemouth, UK.
The full website will launch in January 2016, as we start to announce major details, but for now you can take a look at the reasons why you should be there and sign up to be the first to know here.
We have a great, small venue less than 100 yards from a sandy beach. We’re planning to make innovative use of the space and will have 150 tickets available, at a price that makes the event accessible to all.
We’re going to work out loud on this. I’m excited to be building a small team to work with (which will beat the self-destructive and limited DIY approach I took in 2014) and it’s great to have Adelaida on board already, with her excellent events experience.
A Democratic Conference
The ideas are (over)flowing, but we’re staying mindful of the fact that All About People is, by its very nature, just that. We’re going to be adding a democratic element to the way we organise the event. It’s pretty unique and should be an interesting experiment for all involved — allowing those passionate about creating amazing workplaces to shape the event they want.
Here’s how it will work:
- At 9am on January 8th, we’ll be releasing a batch of 20 extra special tickets for those who really believe in All About People. We’re calling them ‘Believer’ tickets.
- They will go on sale via the All About People Eventbrite page and the All About People Website. Once they’re gone, they’re gone!
- These tickets will be priced at £99, less than half the Super Early Bird price (which will launch in January) and will feature very special benefits.
The lucky 20 Believer ticket holders will be part of the process that shapes the event, a central part of the All About People community. There will be additional benefits and a few surprises leading up to the event too, which we’ll reveal via social media in the next few weeks. These tickets are about much more than a discounted price!
Oh, and if discounted pricing is what you’re really looking for, all other tickets will go on-sale on January 15th… be sure to grab a Super Early Bird!
What to Do Now
This is just the beginning of the All About People journey and there will be plenty more to come.
It’s an event for everyone from Workplace professionals through HR, Internal Comms, Owners, Founders, Independents, Employees… if you’re interested in creating amazing workplaces, this is for you.
If you think All About People isn’t for you, we’re even keener to welcome you! Challenging and being challenged is great for all of us.
Remember, 9am Friday January 8th for Believer tickets here. If you’d like a reminder, follow All About People on Twitter @AAPConf, like the Facebook Page, or sign up for information via the website.
Amazing workplaces are all about the right people, in the right places, doing the right things. Amazing events are too…
See you there!
