Guilty Pledgers is a Spotify app that acts as a charity jukebox: people pledge to charity to add their guilty pleasures to your playlist.
But as well as using it to throw fundraising parties, you can also use it to create a playlist for your marathon run. This is a quick explanation of how to do it.
You will need:
- A premium Spotify account (so you can download playlists to your phone)
- Some nice friends
1. Open the Spotify app
The fastest way to do this is to click here. Assuming you have Spotify, this is what you’ll see inside your Spotify client:

2. Create a party (takes 1 min)
Click ‘Create a party’ and maybe add a nice image, although you don’t have to…

Then fill in the details. The important bit is what charity you want to fundraise for:

Note: a Facebook event is automatically created, but if you choose “Selected guests only” no one will see it except you.
3. Invite people to add to the playlist
You can do this by choosing Facebook friends, or you can ignore all that and just tell people the party code:

The advantage of the Facebook invite is that guests won’t need the code, they can just sign straight in. The advantage of the code is you can whizz it off to anyone you like, even if you’re not Facebook-friends with them.
4. Friends can join your party at guiltypledgers.com
They just sign in with Facebook (mandatory, but it means their name and Face is visible next to their song) and — if required —they enter the party code to join your party.

5. They pledge money to add a song(s)
On mobile, tap the pledge button. On desktop it’s all on one screen.

Right, let’s pick a good song…

Every song is added to your central Spotify playlist. Songs appear instantly, so you can watch the playlist grow in real-time.
6. Now just save your playlist
When everyone has added their songs, just go to your party in the Spotify app to save the playlist.
Important: Because this is a bit of a hack (the app is really meant for parties) you’ll have to manually ‘start the playlist’, let a few songs play and then click ‘End party’. This will trick the app into thinking the party is over which will reveal the ‘Save as a playlist’ option:

Clicking this will save the playlist to your Spotify account. And from there, you can open the Spotify mobile app and download it.

The morning after the marathon, every pledger will get an email (sent to the address associated with their Facebook account). It will remind them how much they pledged and send them to the JustGiving page of your chosen charity, where they can complete their donation.
