Qualifications

The following conditions must be fulfilled for someone to be qualified to apply for Canadian citizenship.

  • Have a permanent address in Canada
  • Have spent at least three of the previous five years living in Canada Have filed taxes when necessary

  • Adopt the citizenship oath.

Assessments of Knowledge and Language

Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 54 and show that they have the necessary proficiency in either English or French to be considered for promotion to level 4 of the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for English or Nivea DE competency linguistic Canadian (NCLC) for French. For those who require assistance with the language requirement, there are opportunities for waivers and adjustments.

Citizenship Test:

Candidates must pass a test measuring their familiarity with Canada’s laws, symbols, history, geography, economy, and government in addition to their rights and obligations.

Need for Physical Presence

In the five years before the application date, applicants must have spent at least 1,095 days (3 years) physically present in Canada.

Procedure for Applications

Applying online or on paper, paying the applicable fees, and sending in the filled-out application form and all relevant supporting documentation are the steps in the application process.

Choice of E-Certificate
For the majority of citizenship applications, applicants will have the option of using an electronic citizenship certificate (e-certificate) or a paper certificate as of January 4, 2023.

Ceremony of Citizenship
The citizenship ceremony, where people swear the Oath of Citizenship, is the last stage in becoming a citizen of Canada. They swear to uphold Canadian rights and obligations by taking this oath.
