This is a summary of various Reviews from different publishers with my thoughts added. You can check out the Redmi K20 Pro and how it fares against its competition using each link.
Design
- The Redmi K20 Pro's design is radically different this time compared from what Xiaomi is known for — Redmi K20 Pro has a glass back with one of the most evocative gradient patterns you’ll come across on any phone today — it’s both premium to feel, and stunning to look at
- With the selfie camera is now a ‘popup’ one — The front looks modern and sharp too, with a ‘full screen’ notch-less display
- Decent under-display fingerprint sensor — reasonably quick and reliable
- Face unlock mechanism is a little clunky — it takes a while to unlock the phone using face unlock as you have to first wake the screen and swipe up for the camera module to engage
Display
- Gorgeous & immersive, 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display — its vibrant colours and excellent contrast levels easily makes it one of the best panels you’ll find in this price segment — sunlight readability is great as well
Software
- MIUI continues to one of the better, more cohesive custom Android UIs around, especially with its recent improvements— and it’s also feature-packed: like gesture navigation, anti-flicker mode, reading mode, second space, dual apps, themes, etc
- The K20 Pro also adds the POCO Launcher on top of MIUI — which brings the Dark Mode and App drawer to the K20 Pro
- The new Game Turbo mode is the Xaiomi's new feature that prioritises bandwidth and disables notifications when you’re in a game
- There are few bugs that show up time to time — push notifications are not delivered sometimes, and the DND mode also doesn’t work as expected sometimes, hopefully, it will be sorted via software updates
- The major drawback with MIUI in recent times is the ads — less intrusive, but those are still there — and while these can be disabled, it’s a difficult process for most of the people
Performance
- Snapdragon 855 chipset at the core enables top-notch flagship performance — the Redmi K20 Pro is a performance powerhouse — at the time of writing this, it gets the highest Antutu scores of any Android phone
- Games like Asphalt 9, PUBG and Fortnite run as smooth as on any other flagship priced double Redmi K20 Pro's price
Camera
- Very good triple rear camera setup — Redmi K20 Pro has a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP telephoto Camera & a 13MP wide-angle camera
- Images captured from Redmi K20 Pro look crisp, vibrant, and details are captured well — image quality is great in all sorts of lighting conditions
- The 8MP telephoto Camera & a 13MP wide-angle camera also takes generally good photos
- The dedicated night mode in the Redmi K20 Pro does the usual multi-frame processing, and produces pretty good results — it captures more light and makes the scene sharper
- A decent 20MP pop-up selfie camera, with a good portrait mode
- Overall, the Redmi K20 Pro's cameras match up well to more expensive phones like the OnePlus 7 and Asus 6Z, it has the best cameras for this price bracket
Audio
- Still rocks the 3.5mm jack, that a lot of other flagships tend to skip
- The single downward-firing speaker is loud and crisp enough to make up for two speakers — even at the full volume, you won’t hear any crackling or sound distortion
Battery
- Battery life is very good with a 4000mAH battery — you will easily get 1.5 days of use
- Supports fast charging — however, the charger provided by Xiaomi is 18W and the Redmi K20 Pro supports up to 27 W, nonetheless still very fast at charging
Verdict
- Xiaomi continues to provide excellent value to its users, Redmi K20 Pro is an excellent-value successor to the super successful Poco F1 — this is the cheapest phone rocking the flagship Snapdragon 855, with all the latest features of 2019 — full screen, popup selfie camera, an in-display fingerprint sensor — having said that, people who want cleaner software experience should still want to spend a little more and go for the OnePlus 7 or Asus 6Z
