1. Introduction

The start of 2022 has been nothing short of electric. With our partnerships, airdrops, hackathons, and more, we understand there is a lot of information to keep up with right now. But worry not! For we will keep you updated every step of the way.

First, we’d like to thank our community for helping us reach 5,000 followers on Twitter. This is an exceptional milestone, and it was amazing to share that moment with our community.

Our Discord and Telegram growth has been wonderful to witness as well, with over 4,000 and 3,300 members, respectively.

On top of that, the first NETA airdrops have successfully landed, including our first large airdrop to over 1,000 Ergo wallet addresses.

This also displayed the powerful architecture of Ergo’s blockchain, seamlessly sending this Ergo native asset to 1,000 addresses in just one transaction. This transaction can be found here.

Prior to successfully landing this first batch of airdrops, we also released the Tokenomics of the anetaBTC protocol.

We announced donating a total of 10% of the total NETA supply to both Ergo Development DAO, led by the Ergo Foundation, and Aneta Foundation, a nonprofit organization to contribute to educational causes throughout the world — with a primary focus of contributing to Khan Academy.

2. Community Team Fund

In addition to these initiatives, we also announced the Community Team Fund, where we will distribute 1.0% of the total NETA supply, which equates to 20,000,000 NETA tokens available to members who join our community team.

Thus far, over 1,000,000 NETA has been distributed to team community members who have helped us grow over the last two months.

We previously explained that roles would include community managers, ambassadors, and developers.

For non-technical community members, we welcome you to join us in expanding our community and mission to the world. If you have ideas for collaboration, we are happy to work closely with those who want to help grow anetaBTC.

3. ErgoHack III

For developers, we welcome you to join us at ErgoHack III, where we will be building anetaBTC and related infrastructure.

Our core engineers will focus on the core development of the anetaBTC protocol, but we’ll also build other related infrastructure with our community development team.

This includes Aneta Wallet, a secure wallet that holds both BTC and ERG. Our approach is to improve upon existing BTC and ERG wallets and add features that facilitate a seamless wrapping experience for the Ergo ecosystem.

We are also interested in pursuing applications with ErgoMixer.

If you would like to build with us at ErgoHack III, please fill out this form.

The hackathon begins February 11th, 2022.

4. Technical Update

Over the lasts few weeks, our development team has been implementing our airdrop mechanisms to ensure a secure and seamless NETA airdrop experience.

This week, we are continuing to collect wallet addresses from our community members and are preparing our Discord airdrops, which will airdrop over 1,500 of our community members. The deadline to register for the Discord airdrops is Friday, January 14th, 2022 at 8:00 PM EST.

This deadline includes registering for the 1,500 Discord Member Airdrop and Top 300 Discord Inviters Airdrop. You only need to register your Ergo wallet address on Discord in the #og-registration channel to be considered registered for both events. This deadline for registering for the 1,500 Telegram Member Airdrop is the same.

The development team is also preparing our anetaBTC Insights dashboard to track on-chain analytics from both cNETA and NETA tokens from Cardano and Ergo blockchains. This dashboard will allow users to seamlessly track statistics such as how many wallets hold NETA and cNETA and the average amount of NETA and cNETA held in wallets.

This is a part of our mission to bring effortless transparency and decentralization to our ecosystem, providing users the opportunity to track all happenings on the blockchain and understand the status of important metrics related to anetaBTC.

In addition to building out our anetaBTC Insights dashboard, we recently announced our partnership with Kyber Network, the creators of wBTC.

Our Partnership Announcement with Kyber Network, creators of wBTC.

Our teams are collaborating on finalizing the best implementation of our protocol along with diving into their experience and learnings from building Wrapped Bitcoin.

Wrapped Bitcoin was revolutionary in its own right, creating the ability to unlock the value of Bitcoin on Ethereum, with a current Total Locked Value of $12.5 billion dollars.

wBTC has a centralized structure, however, with BitGo as custodian, the leading crypto-custodian firm partly owned by Goldman Sachs.

anetaBTC will be entirely decentralized with a non-custodial protocol allowing the value of Bitcoin to be seamlessly transferred onto the Cardano and Ergo platforms.

The last two months have been spent mastering the foundations of Extended Unspent Transaction Output (EUTxO) and different components of the anetaBTC protocol, including implementing and testing Address and UTXO APIs essential for wrapping BTC on Ergo. These tests are being done on a local node, along with also configuring our operations on RenVM’s Dark Pool Layer.

This month will be highly focused on developing and open-sourcing our core protocol along with growing our community team in preparation for ErgoHack III.
