An Introduction to my Blog

Scholastic endeavors have been close to my heart for a long time. Ever since I read Captain Underpants, my first chapter book, I was in love with literature. Yes, Captain Underpants can be considered literature. This led to my passion for the world of ideas. Until now I have been unproductive intellectually. I never wrote for the world to see or expressed my ideas beyond my friend group or classes.

What I am reading now has inspired me to begin sharing my reflections on our world, what I am reading, and encountering in life. I am reading Friedrich Nietzsche’s On the Uses and Disadvantages of History for Life. I came into reading Nietzsche with little understanding of his philosophical ideas. However, I did not realize how radical his beliefs are. According to Nietzsche, History is meant to be used to further the present and the future. He extrapolates from this that the job of academics and the arts is to help evolve human society and culture. Thinking and learning for thinking and learning’s sake is not an admirable pursuit in his eyes. It was this specific idea that pushed me to begin my blog.

I want my blog to focus on three areas of interest: philosophy, political economy, and environmentalist works. While trying to explore how the pieces I write about are still relevant and enlightening in our current age. It is with this in mind that I will continue reading On the Uses and Disadvantages of History for Life and write my first genuine blog post on this work by Friedrich Nietzsche.

I want to make this blog as interactive and diverse as possible. I welcome comments, critiques of my interpretations (I am bound to get many interpretations wrong, but that is the beauty of discussion), and recommendations of readings I should read and write about in the future. I look forward to posting my first post soon.
