Want to Be Part of an Amazing Journey ?
2020/04/13: Please note that we are not hiring currently
Well, this post written with the intention of searching talents for WSO2 Ballerina team. Let me start with the below saying by Richard Branson.
“I believe in myself. I believe in the hands that work, in the brains that think, and in the hearts that love.”
If that doesn’t sounds like you, this post is not for you. Rest of the blog post is centered around the above saying. Let me start with a story of an everyday software engineer.
Everyday Software Engineer
He wakes up every day in the morning, puts on a t-shirt and steps out of the home. Deals with the usual traffic and reaches the office. Sits on his usual place and starts writing code for like eight hours or more than that. In between, he takes breaks to have lunch and chills with his friends. Towards the end of the day he packs his back-pack and goes back home. He repeats this cycle five days a week for many years. He is as much as everyday software engineer you usually meet.
But what if there is actually more than that ?
Unlike everyday engineer, he actually works on something ambitious, something meaningful, something that could change the world. He works on Sri Lanka’s first ever programming language — Ballerina. He is challenged every day with something new and he loves that. He has the self-confidence, technical know-how and desire to confront these challenges.
He works in a culture of freedom and responsibility. He is free to do whatever he wants as long as he is being a responsible person. He has a loving heart and he supports everyone else to succeed and others do the same. He doesn’t fear taking risk to reach new heights because he trusts that others will form a safety net in case he falls.
He is proud about what he does. In fact, he comes to work, not because he has to but because he wants to. As a result he becomes better every day.
Who is that “he” ?
He is Ballerina team!
An inclusive team united under one goal and a common set of values. From the outside, they are different in the same way — a tribe of like-minded people devoted to one mission. But on the inside they are distinguished by the work they do. Just like Germans say a Volk with a Volksgeist, A Team with a Team-Spirit. The head of Ballerina team is Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana. He is bald but gold. You can read about him in his wikipage.
