Prize-Winning Author Faces Intimidation Campaign

Tony Hanania shrugs off “amateurish harassment”

It was reported on Social Media that the prize-winning author and novelist, Tony Hanania, faced accusations of sexual impropriety from two of his ninety-year-old mother’s female care staff at her house in the West Country, England. It was alleged Hanania left inappropriate notes for the two women and made sexual propositions to them.

However, it appears that from the start the false complainants had made a “schoolboy error". Hanania’s handwriting and linguistic manner are highly individual. The notes were clearly not written in a style that could have approximated to that of the author.

The questionable complaints were immediately dismissed as “false" and “lacking any credible evidence” by the local Council in December 2021. The language used in the notes was in the slang of young persons from the locality of a limited educational background, while Mr Hanania is almost sixty years old and a classical scholar. Hanania said the clumsily fabricated notes were part of a harassment campaign which had included racist abuse and attempts to injure and intimidate him.

Tony Hanania has a reputation for reclusiveness and has been described in the British tabloids as the “one of the world’s most reclusive writers”. It was stated in earlier press reports that he had died in Beirut…
