“Significance”
Do you ever wonder: what’s the meaning of our existence — the point of living?
Plenty of questions — plenty of answers. Plenty of conflicts — plenty of solutions. Plenty of arguments — plenty of reasons. I have uncountable questions about this world and its people. I remember my teacher saying, “we are in the last days.” Well, shoot me. What is the point of preparing for our future if we are in the last days. That’s not really a nice thing to say, specially to the current generation. It made that puny hope of mine flicker. I started questioning everything again. Why we all do this and that. Life is strange. We, my mother and I went to a program for the disabled a while ago.
The first performer was astonishing. He was an autistic, singing while playing the piano. I got all emotional. Every performance was dumbfounding: An autistic singing her heart out (she has an amazing voice), the blinds danced, mute and deaf had a catwalk, another autistic sang an operatic song and this guy on a wheelchair has some good skills when it comes to dancing. I’ve never seen anything like it. It made me wonder, how, with all their physical problems/psychological disorder/lack of five senses, they managed to do such things — that I, even with all those things they lack, couldn’t. They were “living” their life when I wasn’t. In spite of what they’re missing, they seem to have found many things that others didn’t. It was really emotional to think of them. They make you wanna get up and do everything.
If you think you have the worst life, this is the kind of program you should see. You will realize even more how blessed you are. Some of us are gifted with complete body parts and talents but we often take them for granted. They are really amazing. And to think — they can do so much even when they lack the ability. While others who have so much potential rejects to develop what they have been given. They were living their lives to the fullest. Are you? This world is full of wonder. There is the disarray however there’s also beauty. It is amazing how the blind can see what those with eyes can’t, how the lame can walk the roads those with legs can’t, how the mute can speak out than those who actually has the capability to talk and how the deaf can listen/pay attention to what others say when those with good-hearing can’t. We should be grateful for the things we have because there are people out there who don’t have them. We should be thankful for the people who surround us because someday we may lose them and we will be filled with regret. We shouldn’t take our gifts for granted.
We all have a role to play in the web of life. And the role of each is distinctive, you just have to dig deeper to find out.We live: to love, serve, know the Lord and help others find the meaning of their lives. We should live life to the fullest and journey to eternity.
