Losing Humanity
Another viral news in Indonesia is the tragedy of Yuyun, fourteen years old girl from Bengkulu who was being rapped and murdered in her own village by 14 men. Few of them were her senior in secondary school. Those men were drunk and Yuyun was alone when she walked to her home after school. Yuyun died when she was rapped. She died because of the pain that she felt. She was chained, rapped, murdered. To get to know the further you can click the link below or search on Google #lightforyuyun. This tragedy happened on early April, but just appeared on media in the late of April.

Here, I am going to give my short perspective on this case. Rape happens in Indonesia a lot, I have no clue about the data but it appeared on the media a lot. Some people in Indonesia still have conservative ideas, they blame the girl for walking alone, blame the alcohol and blame ‘what she wear’ for attracting men to rap her . These ideas are too funny. The one that we should have blamed is the rapist. Yes, the rapist.
It has been so long since people in Indonesia have that stereotype. A girl or a woman, still become the main actor to scape goat problem that men caused, especially in rape cases. People say that we are living in a man’s world. Somehow I believe that is true. Even when the men was wrong, he could become somehow, acceptable.
Yuyun, my biggest condolences for what happened to you. You were still very young, you had dreams that I believed you wanted to achieve. But once again, this is a cruel world, you really do not deserve this. We are with you, we pray for you.
I hope the government would consider the justice punishment for those men who did that to Yuyun. I do not believe in death penalty, even though they were like animal for doing such a bad thing to 14 years old girl. I hope they would live the rest of their life in jail. It would equal, even though I know it would never able to ease the pain that Yuyun’s family feel. Yuyun couldn’t achive her dream, make those men feel the same by living in the jail for the rest of their life. Unfortunately it would hard to be real, since some of them are under 17 and they are protected by children protection law. But, I believe there is still an opportunity to give them an equal punishment for what they have done to Yuyun.
