The term “Bollywood” is used to describe Indian movies. Bollywood means “Hollywood in Bombay,” and Bombay refers to today’s Mumbai. On the other hand, Tollywood means Hollywood in Tamil, and there is a perception that South India is Tollywood and North India is Bollywood.

How many 00 Woods are there?

As for India, there are many different ideas in the north and the south, and there is a connotation there similar to that of Kanto/Kansai in Japan. As shown below, India has a variety of film industries in different geographical areas, and there is also a custom of dividing the film industry into different linguistic regions. It is highly likely that India will become the center of “culture” in the future.

Bollywood…North India, with Mumbai as its center
Kollywood…South India, with Thiruvananthapuram as its center (south of Kochi)
Tollywood…South India, centered on Telangana (Hyderabad)
Mollywood…South India, centered on Kodambakkam (Chennai)
Gorewood…North India, centered on Gujarat (Gujarat)
Lollywood…Centered in Lahore, Pakistan

For other Nantucket woods, see below.

Tollywood is characterized by a male-dominated film industry centered in the state of Telangana, and it is said that the famous RRR also belongs to this Tollywood. The state of Telangana is located in central India, and its best known city is Hyderabad.

Consistency of Commercial Stance

Tollywood films have a consistent commercial stance that emphasizes entertainment and box-office revenue. A wide range of film genres are produced to suit the audience’s tastes, including action, comedy, and love stories.

Huge earnings

It has become a huge revenue-generating industry in Tollywood, accounting for 1% of the gross domestic product of the Telugu-speaking region.

Improvement in technological standards

With the development of digital technology and special effects, the technical standard of Tollywood films has improved dramatically. Personally, I feel that this is the most significant factor here.

Tollywood is such a “Telangana, Telugu film,” but what other films are there besides RRR?

Tollywood films

The Rogue’s Son-in-law (1992)
The first Telugu film to gross Rs. 100 million at the box office. An entertaining blend of comedy and action, it helped establish the commercial stance of Telugu cinema.

Bommarillu” (2006)
The first Telugu film to gross 35 million rupees at the international box office. A love story based on the theme of family love, it helped Telugu films to expand overseas.

Magadheera: The Reincarnation of a Brave Man” (2009)
The largest production budgeted spectacular adventure in Telugu film history. An entertaining blend of action, fantasy, and history, the film marked a rise in the technical standards of Telugu cinema.

Baahubali: The Birth of a Legend (2015)
The biggest hit in the history of Telugu cinema. An action-adventure on an epic scale, it showed new possibilities for Telugu cinema.

Tollywood is featured here, but as mentioned above, India has a thriving film industry at the level of one Hollywood in one metropolitan area, and it is no exaggeration to say that there is a guesswood to your liking.

This one has nothing to do with movies, but…

This one has nothing to do with movies, but the music situation in India is also no longer dominated by Youtube music ranking charts, and in fact, it can be said that the Indian music era is underway.

At the time of writing this article, the following song, Heeriye, is at №1 on the Youtube Music Global Top Chart.

The artist Arijit Singh has been getting a lot of attention, and his other songs, such as Chaleya, are also getting a lot of play.

Witness the best of cinema from Tech India!

With several Hollywood-level film industries in various parts of India, and Indian music already ranking high on Youtube’s music chart rankings, it is clear that India is in the most prosperous region of the film industry.

The topic of Indian films, which we only faintly hear about in Japan, is “traditional” in the sense that it sounds like “India until now,” and you may not be very interested in it. No, you would be wrong about not having been aroused. India is becoming a digital society at a furious pace, and the day may be coming soon when this radicalizing technology and the fusion of Indian culture will project what we now call “Digital India” to the world.

K-POP used digital technology to imagine a global cultural sphere, but it is amazing to be able to peek through the window of film to see what the technologic hype that India is working on will be.
