Nice to Meet You: Who Am I
It’s good to see you here, my name is Angie Kawanishi. I’m new to this platform, so allow me to introduce myself before I start putting out articles about various subjects:)
In one sentence, I’m a trilingual writer, composer/pianist, and programmer who currently lives in NYC. But there’s so much more to me (as the lyrics to my new musical say).
__________
Let’s talk about why I’m here.
As a former student-journalist and just someone who’s been keeping a journal for more than 10 years, it has become part of my nature to constantly observe and record the culture and people around me. My background of living in 3 countries(Japan, China, US) and being deeply involved in vastly different fields(performing arts, science, journalism) has allowed me to gain some pretty interesting and unique perspectives. While I’m lucky enough to have some of my articles published, the topics were limited to the specific publication that I worked for, which is about scientific research.

A lot of things happened for me this past few months. I composed and musical-directed a brand new musical, I landed a dream internship in software engineering, and I found out I will be moving to Tokyo next year for 5 months. I experienced so many new things in such a short period of time that I lose sleep just thinking about what I saw and what I learned. I write all of my ideas down but I thought: why keep this all to myself and my small circle of friends? I want to share more of my stories with more people, and that’s why I’m here.
So many things in life fascinate me, one of which is culture. I especially have a strange and rather love-hate relationship with the Japanese culture. Since I will be spending some time there soon, I will most likely start with a couple of articles about that. But I will write about anything that I find interesting, including cultural differences between the US and East Asian countries, my experience as a theatre composer vs programmer, or just moving to a new city and learning new languages.

Now you know me, Let’s stay in touch and I can’t wait to share my stories:)
