……because tomorrow is your wedding day

Dear Angie,

My goodness what an adventure you have ahead of you. So many years of happiness to come. Of course there will be some sadness too, some perhaps sooner than you imagine, but you will find a way through them. You will discover resources within you, you can’t imagine at the moment.

Tomorrow is your wedding day, it will be the most wonderful day. You are nervous and you won’t sleep well but it won’t matter, because you will be filled with such happiness and excitement that you will be carried along by that.

I know it’s a cliché, but it really will be the happiest day of your life. It’s going to be hot, very hot, and you will question the choice of netting in the skirt of your beautiful wedding dress. I can’t lie, it will cling uncomfortably to your legs, but you will feel beautiful so it won’t matter one bit. You will glow with happiness.

Mum will chase you around the house all morning trying to get you to eat. You will manage little more than a banana, you are very nervous. She looks gorgeous in a purple and cream skirt and jacket and there will be tears as she kisses you good bye before leaving to go to the church.

And then suddenly it will be just you and Dad. Dad is wearing the red patterned tie from M&S which you gave him as a present for just this occasion. He is very nervous, as are you and he fortifies your nerves with a small glass of Brandy. This and the lack of food may account for you feeling faint in the church later. But don’t worry, you won’t actually faint!

Those last precious moments together will always stay with you. Neither of you are able to say much, you are both filled with emotion, but he will be so proud. Oh my goodness how proud. As the car arrives and you close the door to the house where you have spent your whole life, you will hold onto Dad just as tightly as he holds onto you. You might be scared right now but you are about to have a day overflowing with so much love and laughter.

Enjoy every moment.

With love.
