Handling email

I wanted to share a quick workflow I put together for handling email. Like everyone, I get a lot of email, and it’s mostly useless. I always keep my email open on one of my monitors. Here’s my general workflow:

  1. When an email is received, do not click on the notification, as this will open the email, costing you precious seconds. Those seconds add up over time.
  2. Highlight the email in the Inbox.
  3. Click “Delete.”

A great fringe benefit from this is the sender will receive a “Not read” receipt, if you’ve configured your email client to send read receipts.

If the message is truly important, the sender will ask again. In addition, you will get the original when they Fwd you the “did you make any progress on this?” message. You’d be surprised how well this works.

Like what you read? Give angrydba a round of applause.

From a quick cheer to a standing ovation, clap to show how much you enjoyed this story.
